Emotions and digestive system

Emotions are not only connected to our brain and thoughts, but also to a second brain that we have within us and this is the digestive system.

The intestine has more neurons than the spine and acts independently of the central nervous system. This independent brain that lives in our guts and its microbial complex, have a very powerful influence on our general well-being.

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that influences stress, mood, anxiety and happiness. It is very important to know that most of the body’s serotonin, in fact between 80% to 90%, is found in the gastrointestinal tract.

There are 4 phases of digestion and below we will see how our emotions and these phases are completely connected … The first phase is chewing.

Our saliva contains thyaline and that starts the digestion process through the alcalinization of our food. Chewing reflects the present where we live. Am I present in my life? When we eat we must be present and attentive to what we are doing.

When we feed without thinking, we usually eat quickly, without enjoyment, and this can produce great states of anxiety, since we are connected with the past or the future.

Digestion is the second phase and begins in the mouth. Foods like meat, acids and spicy foods or excess stimulants can badly alter the way we assimilate food.

When we have trouble digesting food, we must ask ourselves: How do I digest my life? What is happening to me Am I integrating it in a good way? The best way to feel comfortable after eating is to thank our body for its great work and that will help deliver good energy to the digestion process.

The third phase is absorption. At this point probiotics will be essential. The latest studies on this topic reflect that by eating 20 different types of vegetables during your week, you will create multiple types of probiotics that will make absorption your best ally.

This phase of the digestive process has to do with how I learn and absorb things in my life. If we have gone through some hard lesson to process and its integration is being difficult, it is probable that our absorption is not easy producing gases and intestinal discomfort.

The best way to deal with this is through a good understanding and appreciation of everything that happens to us in life, since with everything we learn and transform ourselves into better humans and greater beings of light. The fourth and final phase is elimination.

This phase is linked to eliminating and letting go of what we don’t like. Problems going to the bathroom and constipation is caused by the difficulty of letting go of thoughts and situations that do not help us or that have hurt us. To help elimination, it is good to eat foods high in fiber, such as whole grains, green leaves, kale, and broccoli.

It is also important to say that meditation is essential since it relaxes us and allows us to productively eliminate not only food residues, but also negative situations and emotions.
